Unlocking Personal Growth: Why Root Cause Analysis Isn’t Just for Work
Self awareness and emotional intelligence are the biggest contributing factors to personal growth and development, when was the last time you did a root cause analysis on your own behaviours?
Firstly, I’m 99.9% sure you know what an RCA (root cause analysis) is, in the context of work. Majority of Companies have a standard practice of continuous improvement. Whether it’s through an RCA, 5 Why’s, Six Sigma, Lean, Kaizen or some other form of continuous improvement process – they all have the same underlining principal – continuous improvement and evolution of a process.
When the continuous improvement processes are adopted, it results in work environments that are more efficient, more effective, more engaging and safer overall.
Lets use iPhone as an example – the consumer (aka you and I), sees a new release every 12-18 months that is new and improved. More benefits, lighter, faster, more features, better camera etc. What we don’t see is in the background there is a team (or potentially multiple teams) working on how to improve the current process/product on a daily basis. If there is a defect, there is an RCA to understand what is the root cause, what needs to change and what can be improved to ensure this defect is eliminated.
I know what you’re thinking – what does an iPhone have to do with We are Mindfluencers??? Well we are taking the well known continuous improvement concept and adding a little twist….. when was the last time you did an RCA on yourself?
In life, things don’t always go according to plan. Think of it in the context of work and life – it could be a conversation that didn’t have the desired outcome, a meeting that didn’t go well, something that is on your mind; however unspoken, a conversation that is needed yet avoided…..
When was the last time you allowed yourself the time and space to understand yourself on a deeper level and what makes you the person you are?
Try these questions on for size:
- Why did I behave that way?
- Why did I react that way?
- What could I have done differently to get a different result?
- Why did I approach it that way?
- Why am I feeling that way? (stressed, anxious, frustrated)
As with the 5 Why’s, when you ask yourself the right questions, you get to the root cause of what’s going on for you. And further than that, if it’s now in your awareness, it gives you the opportunity to lean into it and change.
I’m going to take a stab in the dark here and say you are great in work life and striving to be better; however what about the human behind the job?
At Mindfluencers, we’re passionate about making you better in every context of your life – and that starts behind the scenes, at the individual level.
So often it’s easy to compartmentalise our personality into ‘work’, ‘family’, ‘friends’ etc. We’re passionate about bringing down those internal walls and encouraging more open plan living within your mental home. By discovering the root cause of any reaction or particular behaviour, you’re able to not only identify said walls but start to dissolve them. This will increase your authenticity across the board and have you feeling more YOU in any given context.
